Popular questions about Medical bactericidal irradiators
Medical UV lamps are devices that emit ultraviolet light to disinfect air and surfaces in indoor spaces. They are widely used in medical facilities, laboratories, and other environments that require a high level of sterility.
BactoSfera offers a range of medical UV lamps, including wall-mounted stationary units and mobile models on wheels. Some models are equipped with protective screens for safe use in the presence of people, while others are designed for operation in unoccupied rooms.
When operating UV lamps without protective screens, people, animals, and unprotected plants should not be present in the room. It is essential to follow the manufacturer’s instructions for installation and operation and to use personal protective equipment if needed.
Original BactoSfera medical UV lamps are available for order on the official company website and through authorized retailers.
When choosing a UV lamp, the size of the room should be taken into account. For example, rooms up to 20 m² are suitable for low-power models, while larger areas require more powerful devices. Detailed specifications for each model can be found on the official BactoSfera website.
Medical germicidal irradiators are devices that disinfect air and surfaces using UV radiation. They are used in hospitals, laboratories, operating theatres and maternity wards. Medical germicidal irradiators are indispensable in sterile environments.
Medical germicidal irradiators are certified for medical institutions, provide a stable dose of UV-C radiation, have reliable protection and control of operation. Household lamps are weaker and are not designed for professional use in at-risk areas.
There are open, closed (recirculators), combined medical germicidal irradiators. Each type is used depending on the task: prophylaxis, emergency disinfection, continuous disinfection in the presence of personnel.
Yes, but only closed models – recirculators. Such medical germicidal irradiators are safe: UV rays do not go outside, the air is disinfected inside the casing. Open models are used only when people are not present.
Take into account the area, purpose, number of people, mode of operation. For example, for wards are suitable for recirculators, for sterile areas – open irradiators. It is important that medical germicidal irradiators comply with sanitary norms and capacity by volume.

Irradiation with medical lamps is widely used as an effective physiotherapeutic method for treating a whole range of conditions. They are used in healthcare facilities, but anyone can order such equipment for home use. No specialist knowledge is required to use them, and the procedure itself is painless and comfortable. It is precisely these advantages that have led to a renewed surge of interest in various types of therapeutic and germicidal lamps in Ukraine today.
The purpose of medical lamps
A medical lamp is a specialised piece of equipment used in medical practice to deliver radiation of a specific wavelength — visible, infrared or ultraviolet. Such devices are used for physiotherapy, local tissue heating, and the disinfection of air and surfaces in medical premises, as well as within various machines designed to accommodate replaceable lamps. The specific method of application is always determined by a medical professional, as the operating mode depends on the task at hand.
Modern medical technology includes several main types of such devices. Each irradiator is designed for a specific area of application, which we will discuss below.
Medical irradiators: what types are there and why are they needed?
There are various types of therapeutic lamps with different wavelengths: short-wave, long-wave and medium-wave. Depending on their operating wavelength, they are used for air disinfection and the treatment of medical conditions:
- the Minin lamp, or blue lamp;
- bactericidal lamps;
- infrared lamps.
They are used both at home and in healthcare facilities. You can buy medical lamps at a great price in our shop.
Minin lamp
Blue light therapy lamps are used for physiotherapeutic treatment. Dry heat has long been used to treat inflammatory conditions. The blue medical lamp, or Minin reflector, was developed in the late 19th century by a Russian military doctor and is a device that emits infrared rays. The Minin reflector emits wavelengths ranging from 780 to 1000 nm and heats the irradiated skin surface to approximately 50 °C.
Interestingly, the device was initially used in dentistry to treat the gums, before doctors in other specialities also took an interest in it. To this day, the ‘blue lamp’ remains the most widely recognised device for treating colds, runny noses and ear infections in both children and adults.
The reflector has a special reflective coating to concentrate the light in the desired direction. The bulb is made of blue glass to minimise any potential adverse effects of the light on the eyes.
The intensity of the treatment is adjusted by changing the distance between the device and the area being treated. The recommended distance from the body to the medical lamp is 20–60 cm. The distance should be set so that you feel a distinct and pleasant warmth.
The extensive list of conditions for which the use of the Minin reflector is recommended can be divided into several groups:
- otolaryngological conditions, as well as disorders of the upper and lower respiratory tracts — laryngitis, tonsillitis, sinusitis, otitis, acute respiratory viral infections, the common cold, tracheitis, bronchitis, pneumonia;
- disorders of the musculoskeletal system and post-traumatic conditions, such as osteoporosis, osteochondrosis, osteoarthritis, arthritis, oedema, pain, strains, dislocations, contusions, ligament tears, etc.;
- disorders of the nervous system — myalgia, neuralgia, neuritis, plexitis, migraine, radiculitis, neuroses, depressive states, chronic fatigue syndrome.
A positive effect is observed when the blue lamp is applied to the gastrointestinal tract, liver and heart.
In addition, the Minin reflex lamp is effective in boosting immunity, particularly during periods of increased incidence of seasonal colds. Please read the instructions carefully before using the device.
Infrared medical lamps
These emit waves in the infrared spectrum, which ensures deep heating of the body’s tissues. Unlike a blue lamp, there is almost no visible light during heating. Directed infrared radiation also does not heat surrounding objects.
This type of lamp is effective in treating:
- rhinitis, sinusitis and otitis;
- muscle and joint pain;
- atherosclerosis;
- hypertension.
The infrared lamp is used to treat skin conditions such as:
- eczema;
- psoriasis;
- dermatitis.
Depending on your needs, you can choose from tabletop, floor-standing, ceiling-mounted or wall-mounted models.
Germicidal lamps
Germicidal lamps are used to disinfect the air and surfaces. This is a versatile device used not only in healthcare facilities but also in other public places, such as catering establishments, shops, businesses and educational institutions.
Germicidal lamps are available in various types. It is essential for the user to distinguish between two main types:
- Ozone-generating — the UV lamp is housed in a quartz glass tube that freely transmits ultraviolet radiation. When switched on, it is recommended to leave the room and ventilate it once the disinfection process is complete.
- Ozone-free — these do not produce ozone whilst in operation; therefore, such devices can be switched on in rooms where people and animals are present.
We offer ozone-free germicidal lamps for healthcare facilities.
Open irradiators
Quartz lamps, with a wavelength range of 185 nm, emit radiation that triggers the formation of ozone — a triatomic form of ordinary oxygen with very high oxidising power, which at certain concentrations can be harmful to humans, animals and plants. Excess ozone causes coughing, headaches, a scratchy throat and dryness of the mucous membranes. Therefore, when switching on a quartz lamp to disinfect a room, all people and animals must be removed from the room. Once the device has been switched off, the room should be ventilated.
There are quartz lamps specifically designed for the treatment of ENT organs, housed in a protective casing and fitted with mouth and nose attachments. Dark goggles must be worn during the procedure. During the session, the ultraviolet light from the lamp sterilises the mucous membranes.
Closed irradiators
Semi-enclosed and enclosed irradiators include:
- indirect irradiation devices with a reflector;
- combined units — with two lamps that can be directed upwards and downwards;
- fully enclosed irradiators, also known as recirculators.
Recirculators
In recirculators, air circulates and is drawn through the unit by fans, thereby being decontaminated. These devices can be used even when people are present in the room being treated.
In which hospital areas are they used?
Various types of medical lamps are used in virtually all healthcare facilities. The choice of equipment depends on the intended use, hygiene requirements and the procedures being carried out. The table below lists the most common applications.
| Type of medical lamp | Room | How it is used |
|---|---|---|
| Minin lamp | Physiotherapy room | Localised heat application during prescribed treatment |
| Infrared lamp | Physiotherapy department, rehabilitation room | Conducting physiotherapy procedures |
| Germicidal lamp | Treatment room, dressing room, operating theatre, ward, laboratory | Disinfection of air and surfaces |
| Recirculation unit with germicidal lamp | Wards, A&E, doctors’ offices, corridors | Continuous air disinfection in the presence of people (for enclosed models) |
| Ultraviolet irradiator | Physiotherapy room | Carrying out medical procedures as prescribed by a doctor |
In a modern hospital, medical lamps are an important part of medical and sanitary equipment. They help to maintain safe conditions for patients and staff, and ensure the effective operation of specialised equipment.
