The principle of operation of the device is based on obtaining luminescence due to the arc discharge between the electrodes, which are located in the emitter. Inside the lamp there is mercury and gas, most often argon. This allows you to get the necessary spectrum of radiation density.

After the device is turned on, an arc discharge occurs in the lamp, the temperature rises, the mercury begins to vaporize, and its atoms collide with the electrons of the arc discharge. The result is an ultraviolet glow.
